Secret Peugeot caught in photo shoot? Filed under: Concept Cars, Spy Photos, Peugeot A small throng of suspicious-acting people with a camo'd mystery car can't help but attract attention. Expecting privacy in a public area near a busy shopping mall while shooting the unknown car is also rather presumptuous. Thus, despite the efforts of the staff on hand (including threats of lawsuits), bystanders managed to get photos of this Peugeot... something.
The small-statured vehicle with a bold stance may be well-covered in these photographs, but our money is on it being the EX1 concept that's expected to debut at this year's Paris Motor Show. It's about the right size and shape to be the 2012 Peugeot 208, as well, but the heftier-than-normal wheels make the concept car a much more likely prospect. If the EX1 doesn't appear in Paris later this month, we'll just have to keep our eyes peeled for a Peugeot ad that looks like it was shot in an Icelandic parking lot.

Vauxhall GTC concept completely revealed ahead of Paris Motor Show debut Filed under: Concept Cars, Europe, Paris Motor Show, Hatchback, Vauxhall
2010 Vauxhall GTC Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery
Vauxhall has beaten the speculating voices of the Internet to the Paris Motor Show punch by pulling the covers off of its GTC Concept well ahead of the main event. According to the company, what you see above is likely to have more than a little influence on the next Astra Sport Hatch. In classic concept style, the GTC rolls on epic 21-inch wheels that aren't likely to find their way to the production version of the car any time soon. That's not to say that this creation is pure fantasy, though.
For one thing, there's a direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine snugged under the hood, complete with a functioning start/stop system and a six-speed manual gearbox. That choice of powerplant seems a little too realistic to just be a show-circuit folly, so our guess is that the Astra Sport Hatch will likely boast similar hardware when it hits the road to take on cars like the Volkswagen Scirocco. Hit the jump for the full press release and check out the gallery for a closer look. Vauxhall will show off the GTC Concept in Paris starting on September 30, and we'll be on-hand to give you live shots and impressions of its reveal.

Early Ford Model T factory may become a museum but needs your help Filed under: Etc., Plants/Manufacturing
The Ford Model T was a game-changer, allowing middle-class America to finally afford a horseless carriage. As the public began taking to the roads in greater numbers, our nation began its transformation into a modern motoring society.
The Model T was first produced in 1908 and enjoyed a successful sales through 1927. In 1925, production hit its peak and Ford was turning out 9,000 to 10,000 cars per day. That adds up to an annual run of around two million cars.
One of the first assembly locations for the Ford Model T is the Highland Park plant, which is located steps from Woodward Avenue. It's a building with a rich history and it may get another shot at life.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the Woodward Avenue Action Association has nominated the Highland Park building in a national online competition. The National Trust for Historic Preservation runs a competition where they provide $25,000 in grant money to help preserve buildings of historical significance. The WAAA, if they win, plan to use the cash as seed money for an interesting project. Their goal is to turn the Highland Park assembly plant into an area Welcome Center. Visitors would have the opportunity to learn past and present information about Woodward, Detroit, and Michigan. To further entice visitors, the Henry Ford Museum has expressed interest in supplying exhibits for a small display.
If you think the Highland Park factory should win the contest, head over to the National Trust's Community Challenge page and cast your vote.

Kelley Blue Book on the auction block? Filed under: Etc. Kelley Blue Book has been arming car buyers and sellers with vehicle pricing information since 1926, but the Financial Times claims that the privately owned company is looking to sell, with wo sources familiar with the matter saying KBB has hired a bank to handle the sale.
Interested in buying? Plan to have somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 million to $1 billion on hand. You'll also likely have to bid against some of the industry's heaviest hitters. One of the news-leaking bankers tabs AutoTrader as the lead bidder, with both eBay and Google likely to be in the fold. Since nobody from KBB is commenting on the record, we don't know why the company is selling, but the KBB.com website has experienced a decline in traffic from nine million visits per month to about seven million over the past three years. KBB is family owned, though no members of the Kelley family currently work in executive management at the company.

Spy Shots: 'Ring-bound Aston Martin One-77 begs the question - Who is Dirty Shirley? Filed under: Spy Photos, Coupe, Performance, Aston Martin
"Dirty Shirley" Aston Martin One-77 spy shots - Click above for high-res image gallery
If you're thinking, "This car looks familiar," it's because we've seen it before. The Aston Martin One-77 continues to tease us with its beauty, power and exclusivity, and our spies have caught the bronze test car out on the Nürburgring once again. This time, though, One-77 isn't its only name.
Whoever Dirty Shirley is, she should be honored to know that her name has been given to Aston's super-rare One-77. Even so, if this name is just Aston's way of getting closer to its prototypes, so be it, because honestly, we can't think of a more appropriate name.
For the sake of drooling, we'll remind you yet again that only 77 of these darlings will be made, packing a lordly 7.3-liter V12 good for over 700 horsepower. Top speed is somewhere north of 220 miles per hour, and the whole thing retails for a lofty $1.8 million. Stay dirty, Shirley.

Video: BMW registers dontblogaboutthis.com, we can't help it Filed under: Coupe, Etc., Marketing/Advertising, BMW, Rumormill, Specialty
A new website called DontBlogAboutThis.com has surfaced, currently populated with two photos and two videos. The photos show an odd looking BMW 6 Series wearing skinny tires, a matte paint job and a don't-look-at-me-no-please-look-at-me bumper sticker. Is it the new BMW Hipster Series? The site also notes that these photos are not spy shots - which we know is true since we looked up the domain registration information. The site is owned by BMW.
The two videos, which you can watch after the jump, reveal only a little more than the photos. Whatever is under the hood of this BMW is running very quietly. In fact, it seems to be mostly road noise that we hear before the slightly creepy Heroes-esque music comes in.
What does it all mean? Honestly... we have no clue. We know that the BMW M6 has ceased production so maybe the engineers are deciding to head in a different direction. Could this be powered by hydrogen, Bangle Blood or is an electric boogaloo 6 Series is on the horizon?Continue reading Video: BMW registers dontblogaboutthis.com, we can't help it Video: BMW registers dontblogaboutthis.com, we can't help it originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 07 Sep 2010 19:58:00 EST. Jeremy Clarkson calls The Stig a 'Greedy Tw*t' [w/poll] Filed under: Hirings/Firings/Layoffs, UK, Celebrities It would seem that the vitriol between the trio of presenters on Top Gear and Ben Collins, the man behind the Stig's helmet, isn't just for show. During a recent charity event, Jeremy Clarkson, arguably the leader of the TG three amigos, made it clear just how he feels about Collins' unmasking of himself by calling the former tame racing driver "The Greedy Tw*t." That's certainly one way to put it.
Rumors began dusting up over whether or not Ben Collins was the racer in white after it was widely publicized that Collins was seeking to publish a book on his life as the White Stig. The BBC attempted to file an injunction stopping the publisher from moving forward, but a judge found that there was no reason to stop Collins from moving forward.
The BBC reacted to Collins' actions by putting the driver out of a job. Or at least out of a job in show business. Overall, fans have been less than thrilled with the debacle, with most saying that the driver has gone a long way toward ruining a good thing for everyone.
Even so, we're guessing the Collins memoir will have no problem finding a global audience. After all's said and done, will you read it?

Video: 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit police car leaks out Filed under: Sedan, Videos, Dodge, Police/Emergency
Dodge Charger police pursuit vehicle revealed - Click above to watch the video after the jump
This all seems a bit backwards. Chrysler has yet to release the official details and images about the 2011 Dodge Charger, but we already have the skinny on the Charger Pursuit, Dodge's work-ready police car set to hit the streets in just a few months. And while only one official image of the Charger cop car has been revealed, a new video gives us a walk-around of Chrysler's latest pursuit vehicle.
Recorded at what appears to be some sort of police fleet convention, this poorly-lit amateur video gives us a nearly complete view of what the 2011 Charger's exterior will look like when gussied up for police duty. Furthermore, it shows off the new lines of the Charger sedan, including that Challenger-inspired rear end.
Can't wait for Chrysler to unload a high-res image gallery of 2011 Charger photos? Feed your impatience by watching the video after the jump. Hat tips to Edgardo and Dave W!

New Shelby Ford Mustang models could include V6, twin-turbo GT500 Filed under: Aftermarket, Concept Cars, Coupe, Performance, Ford
Shelby Mustang Concepts - Click above for image gallery
Earlier this year, Shelby announced it would focus less on building complete cars and more on selling parts, and that transition began when the company brought much of its manufacturing in-house and created a new speed shop to customize Mustangs at its Las Vegas facility.
Looking to the future, Shelby has now posted a query online asking its customers what they want to see from the company, and in the process it's proposed four Mustang aftermarket packages ranging from a V6 model to a twin-turbo Shelby GT500.
While probably the least likely to appeal to the everyday Mustang enthusiast because of its cost ($100,000 not including the car), the twin-turbo GT500 obviously caught our attention. The concept, codenamed 2010-04a, would be based off the 2007-2009 GT500 and would feature a twin-turbo system with variable boost good for 1000+ horsepower at the rear wheels in addition to an adjustable suspension, widebody kit, 10-point roll cage and more.
On the other end of the spectrum, Shelby is considering offering a package for 2010+ V6 models carrying the Shelby GTS moniker. This seems more likely to make it to production, especially since Shelby has already produced a working prototype. The GTS would feature various visual and performance upgrades and the package would retail for somewhere between $9,000 to $12,000. Finally, the last two concepts are based on the new 2011 Mustang GT and would feature the same styling upgrades as the V6 version. Follow the jump for a full list of proposed features for both the twin-turbo GT500 and the GTS model, and let us know which packages you think Shelby should offer.

Pagani Zonda HH commissioner revealed as 30-year-old Chicago software mogul Filed under: Convertible, Performance, Europe
Pagani Zonda HH - Click above for image gallery
Even with the new model around the corner, Pagani has no problem putting out special editions of the current Zonda faster than Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's. The latest came in the form of the Zonda HH, a one-off blending the best bits from the Zonda Cinque edition and the Zonda F Roadster in a delicious blue package that looks about as drool-worthy as they come.
The big question on enthusiasts' minds, though, was just who commissioned the latest unique Zonda. Initial speculation based on the name had it that Hugh Heffner had ordered the special supercar, but those rumors can now be put to rest as the real buyer has been revealed as David Heinemeier Hansson.
The 30-year-old software guru is the brains behind such programs as the Ruby on Rails web-dev platform and the 37signals software firm. Heinemeier Hansson is based in Chicago, but since the Zonda was never homologated to U.S. specifications, reports indicate that the owner bought a vacation home in Italy just so he could drive the thing. Now that's dedication.

Video: 2011 Lexus IS lives out Keith Moon fantasies Filed under: Sedan, Videos, Lexus, Luxury
2011 Lexus IS sport sedan in "Music Track" - Click above to watch the video after the jump
For 2011, the Lexus IS sport sedan is getting a mild exterior styling update. Up front, the grille and bumper are all new, while a new taillamp cover and tailpipe design update the posterior. Not one to be left out of a trend, the Lexus IS is also adding HID headlamps paired with LED daytime running lights. The upgraded lights are standard on the 2011 IS350 and are an option on the IS250. New color choices and wheel styles round out the exterior changes, but the most interesting update happens under the skin with the availability of all-wheel drive on the IS350. Thirty percent of customers opt for the all-wheel drive IS250, but now they can get the added traction along with an extra 102 horsepower.
Enthused about the updates, Lexus created a video of the IS sport sedan performing... a drum solo? In an apparent bid to highlight the precision handling of their IS sedan, fitted with F-sport parts, they pulled together a team which includes composers, a mathematician and a stunt driver. Music and driving go hand in hand and the beat this Ultrasonic Blue Lexus IS lays down is surprisingly good. See (and hear) for yourself after the jump.

Rumormill: Nissan GT-R 'Egotist' coming soon? Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Japan, Nissan, Rumormill
2010 Nissan GT-R - Click above for high-res image gallery
Don't call it the Spec M. According to Autocar, the suits at Nissan have decided to sail a new luxury version of the mighty GT-R under the Egoist banner. The car will supposedly wear a completely new front fascia, and will debut alongside the facelifted version of the GT-R later this year. Other changes include a pair of special Recaro thrones, massive front brakes and unique 10-spoke wheels. All of that kit will set you back a lofty $166,740 at current conversion rates, but so far, it's unclear whether the Egoist will make its way to the States or whether it will be a JDM-only (and possibly Euro-only) piece.
Autocar is also serving up a few details on the plain Jane 2011 GT-R. If the report has hit its mark, we can look forward to a significant weight reduction along with a few mechanical tweaks that should up the horsepower. A new oil cooler, exhaust system and slightly larger turbos should help the car churn out a grand total of 506 horsepower and 448 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers are awfully specific without any official word from Nissan, but right now, this estimate is as good as anyone's.

Maserati to base upcoming junior Quattroporte on next Chrysler 300? Filed under: Sedan, Performance, Chrysler, Maserati, Rumormill, Luxury
1989 Chrysler TC by Maserati
As excitement and anticipation mount for the arrival of a new "entry-level" sedan from Maserati, so do the rumors. The new model, expected to slot in below the current Quattroporte, has been the subject of much conjecture and speculation, but the latest hits a little closer to home.
According to reports, the junior QP could share its underpinnings with the next Chrysler 300C. This in contrast with previous reports that the Trident marque was looking to develop a new platform for the model, a move that would be decidedly more expensive for a Fiat/Chrysler empire already spread too thin. (Closer collaboration is expected between the Chrysler and Lancia divisions, which could also lead to a next-gen 300-based successor to the discontinued Lancia Thesis.)
As sources point out, this wouldn't be the first time that Maserati and Chrysler have gotten into bed with each other. Close ties between onetime Chrysler chief Lee Iacocca and Alejandro de Tomaso (of the eponymous sportscar company that once owned Maserati) led to the disastrous badge-whoring exercise known as the Chrysler TC by Maserati (pictured above). If the latest reports come to fruition, we'd certainly hope the outcome would be in a different league altogether.

Audi won't build you an RS5 Cabrio, but Senner will sell you the next best thing Filed under: Aftermarket, Convertible, Performance, Europe, Audi
Senner Tuning Audi A5 Cabriolet - Click above for high-res image gallery
Audi's full-bore RS5 treatment may only be available in coupe form, but that doesn't mean droptop enthusiasts can't join in on some of the fun. Senner AG, a company known for its Audi upgrades, now offers its RS design package for the A5 Cabriolet, and while it doesn't boast the outrageous power numbers of the RS5, it certainly has the look, with a couple of eccentric one-off touches, to boot.
Starting with an A5 2.0T Cabriolet, Senner has bumped engine output from 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque up to a more palatable 275 hp and 317 lb-ft through the use of sport air filters and ECU recalibration. An all-new exhaust system has also been fitted, as well, giving the A5 a louder, angrier sound - something even the S5 Cabriolet could benefit from.
Visually, Senner has added larger front air intakes similar to those on the RS5, though the A5's foglamps have been kept intact. Filling out the wheel wells are silver-chrome 20-inch wheels, wrapped in low-profile tires (245/30 in front, 295/25 out back), and a new rear diffuser has been added to round off the host of exterior upgrades. The interior has largely been left alone, save the addition of carbon fiber trim throughout the cabin.
Senner's kit retails for a healthy €19,900 (roughly $25k USD), and when added to the €55,000 cost of a new A5 Cabriolet, that brings the whole package to €74,900, or $95,150 USD based on current exchange rates. Scroll through the gallery below to see the handsome Senner A5 from all angles, and hit the jump for the full details in the press release.

Harrington's half-size classics to start pint-sized car nuts early Filed under: Classics, Etc., Mercedes-Benz, Toys/Games
Harrington Group's replica Mercedes-Benz 300SL - Click above for image gallery
Want your little car nut to stand out from the neighborhood pack of wheeled terrors? Go for one of these fantastic looking half-scale classics from the Vietnam-headquartered Harrington Group, and wave goodbye to mediocre renditions of roadgoing vehicles as little Bobby (or Bobbie) cruises in style. These replicas use composite for both the body and chassis, and the detailing is good enough that they look convincingly like the real thing. Until, that is, someone steps into the picture and you get a scale reference. The company claims to have distributors in the U.S. and U.K., as well as Canada and the Netherlands.
A range of gasoline engines brings real internal combustion thunder and the sweet smell of exhaust to the party. Engines start at 50cc and can go all the way up to a terrifyingly irresponsible racing kart unit. Automatic and manual transmissions are available and there is enough room for adults to ride along with their six-year-old and up progeny. Seats and pedals adjust, too, so when Junior is asleep, you can sneak out for a spin without feeling like a circus bear riding a tricycle.
Interestingly, Harrington Group also makes restoration products for real classic cars, including stainless steel reproduction bumpers and interiors for the Volkswagen Beetle, Citroen 2CV and BMW Isetta.
Fisher Price's Power Wheels are extravagant enough that there's a healthy trade in used battery-powered backyard buggies. Harrington has yet to respond to an Autoblog request for pricing information, but these cars are likely to be significantly north of the $250-$400 you'll spend on a tricked out Power Wheels at the local big box store. Available models are Porsche 356, Mercedes-Benz 300SL, Jaguar E-Type, Willys Jeep, and Bugatti T35, along with mini scooters that ape Vespas of yore. Put one of these under the tree this (fast approaching) Christmas, and you'll see what the face of bliss looks like. Thanks for the tips, all!
